Summer Fuel Prices: What's Driving the Drop
Regular is down 14 cents from June's peak. Here's what's behind it and what we expect through Labor Day.
If you've filled up in the last few weeks, you've noticed the price moving in the right direction. Regular unleaded across our NH locations is sitting at $3.219 as of this week — down from $3.359 at the June peak.
A few things are driving it: crude oil futures have softened as summer driving demand leveled off earlier than forecast, and regional refinery output has been steady. New England typically sees a late-August dip before the fall blend switchover adds a few cents back in October.
What does that mean for you? Fill up now if you can. The October reformulation won't cause a spike, but you'll likely see prices creep up 8-12 cents through the fall.
Diesel remains elevated due to continued freight demand. We don't expect significant relief there until early winter.
